Texting Abbreviations

Parents - in an attempt to assist you in understanding what your child may be saying and or being told while texting or chatting, please note the following common abbreviations. These are but a few examples of the acronyms used for the new language of texting and chatting.

  • A3- Anytime, Anywhere, Anyplace
  • ADDY- Address
  • AFAIK - As far as I know
  • AITR- Adult in the room
  • ASAP - As soon as possible
  • ASL - Age/sex/location
  • ATM - At the moment
  • AWOL - Absent without official leave

B

  • B4N - Bye for now
  • BBL - Be back later
  • BEG- Big evil grin
  • BF - Boyfriend, best friend
  • BM&Y- Between me and you
  • BRB - Be right back
  • BTW - By the way

C

  • CD9 - Code 9 (means parents are around)
  • CID - Crying in disgrace
  • CU - See you (later)
  • CU2 - See you too

D

  • D8 - Date
  • DIKU? - Do I know you?
  • DTRT - Do the right thing

E

  • EG - Evil grin
  • ESAD - Eat stuff and die

F

  • F2F - Face to face
  • FITB - Fill in the blank
  • FOMC - Fell off my chair
  • FYA - For your amusement

  • GF - Girlfriend
