Tree Removal and Trimming - South Madison Street
As part of the interim sidewalk and streetscape improvements to South Madison Street, the Town of Middleburg's contractors will be removing two trees and trimming additional trees on South Madison Street between Washington Street and Federal Street. WHEN?This work will begin Monday, February 24th, and will take 2-3 days. WHERE?The majority of work will occur on the east side of S. Madison Street, where two trees will be removed. Specifically, these trees are in front of 5/9 S. Madison Street and 11 S. Madison Street. Tree trimming will occur on both sides of the street. TRAFFIC IMPACTS:South Madison Street will remain open during the work. However, one lane of traffic will be closed, so crews will be directing traffic each day that work occurs. Please use caution and follow all instructions of the traffic control crews. We strongly encourage you to use detours to get to Federal Street and further south, such as to the Middleburg Millwork or The Hill School. The east sidewalk will be closed during this work for safety purposes. Some businesses may not be accessible during this time. No street parking will be permitted on either side of the street during the duration of this project. FUTURE WORK:Future work as part of these interim improvements include repairs to the curbing, repairs to the brick sidewalks, and smoothing of surfaces around former and current tree roots. Some of this work may include the use of a flexi-pave system (recently used by CDMX/Lou Lou on East Washington Street). Notices of this future work and impact to sidewalk access will be provided prior to the work occurring. The Town's goal is to complete these interim improvements before public events and festivals this spring. LONG-TERM PLANS:The Town has developed conceptual designs of long-term plans for South Madison Street, to include accessible and widened sidewalks, new street lights, and repairs to existing infrastructure. Those plans remain under discussion pending long-term funding decisions.
