1. Who receives curbside trash and recycling collections in Town?

The Town of Middleburg contracts with American Disposal to provide curbside collection of refuse, recycling, and yard waste for single family homes, townhomes, and some businesses*** within the Town’s corporate limits. Residents who live within a community that has a Homeowners Association (HOA) should contact their HOA for information regarding refuse services.

***Businesses are limited to no more than three (3) containers (max. 96 gal. each) of refuse for collection; those who exceed this limitation must contract for private collection with a licensed solid waste hauler.

2. How do I set up trash service?

Single family homes, townhomes and most businesses within the Town’s corporate limits receive curbside refuse and recycling collection automatically. You do not need to request trash collection service or to set up an account. If your house is new construction and you do not have a refuse tote or recycling bin, please contact Town Hall at (540) 687-5152 or by email at info@middleburgva.gov.

3. What is my refuse, recycling, and yard waste collection day?

Refuse and recyclables are collected on Wednesdays between the hours of 6 AM and 5 PM.  Collections can go throughout the day depending upon volume, inclement weather conditions, or other unforeseen circumstances.

Trash and recycling are collected separately; residents and businesses should expect a gap in time between the two collections. American Disposal begins refuse collection very early on Wednesday mornings; recycling collection usually begins later in the morning and may continue into the late afternoon. Containers may be placed out for collection no earlier than Tuesday evening and must be removed by Wednesday evening.

4. Does the Town provide refuse and recycling containers?

Each residence and business that receives curbside refuse and recycling collection has been issued a black refuse tote and a blue recycling bin. 5. What can be recycled?

Recycling helps to reduce your carbon footprint. The Town wanted to provide a brief update for our residents on what materials are now being accepted as recyclable.

• PETE/HDPE Plastics Number 1-7/Rigid containers - Jugs, bottles, cartons, tubs, trays, buckets, and bins
• Metals including - Aluminum, bi-metal cans, foil, steel, and tin
• Paper - Office magazines, newspaper, books, mail, shredded materials, and catalogs
• Cardboard - Shipping/moving, (flattened) cereal, paperboard, frozen food

Rules

• Recyclable materials may still be commingled in the same container and are later separated at the sorting facility.
• Cardboard boxes must be broken down. It allows for neater and easier disposal.
• Items must be free of food and other non-recyclable materials.
• Receptacles must be strong enough to withstand handling and prevent scattering of contents.
• Recycling containers, when full, cannot weigh more than 50 pounds.

6. What cannot be recycled?

***GLASS IS NO LONGER ACCEPTED WITH RECYCLING***

Due to the lack of markets for the materials, glass bottles and jars are no longer accepted for curbside recycling in Town. For now, Loudoun County is still accepting glass at its drop-off recycling center at Mickie Gordon Park on Carters Farm Lane, which is open 7 days a week during daylight hours.

7. What happens if my Tote goes missing or is damaged? Will you replace it?

8. Can I request a different size Tote or recycling bin?

No. The containers issued by our contractor are their standard sizes.  If the recycling you generate does not fit with the blue bin, you are welcome to use your own container as long as it is clearly marked for recycling.  Neither the Town nor the contractor are responsible for any damage to self-provided containers.

9. How do I report a missed refuse collection?

11. Does the Town have a drop-off recycling center?

The Town does not have its own recycling center; however, Loudoun County operates a drop-off recycling center conveniently located just to the east of Town at Mickie Gordon Park on Carters Farm Lane, which is open 7 days a week during daylight hours.

12. How do you dispose of Bulk/Special Waste?

The Town of Middleburg strives to keep both public and private property free of refuse, but kindly asks our residents to assist the Town in this endeavor.

If you have an item that is too large, bulky or heavy to be handled with the normal curbside collection, please contact American Disposal the week prior to your desired Wednesday collection with their customer support team at (703) 368-0500 or info@adsimail.com.

Yard Waste Collection

Yard waste includes grass clippings, leaves, brush, small branches, and natural Christmas trees and wreaths. Properly contained or bundled yard waste will be collected. Limbs can be no longer than 4 feet in length and 3 inches thick in diameter. Please place grass clippings and leaves in biodegradable paper bags (NO PLASTIC BAGS) OR un-bagged in a personal container clearly marked as "Yard Waste". Bundles or items that are bagged are not to exceed 50 pounds. American Disposal will collect a maximum of ten bundles of tree limbs and brush, per pick-up, and a maximum of ten bags of leaves, per pick-up.

14. What is the inclement weather and holiday refuse collection policy?

If inclement weather occurs, American Disposal will notify the Town if services need to be cancelled. American will coordinate a modified collection day with the Town on a case-by-case basis, preferably on the next day. Similarly, American will coordinate with the Town when a holiday impacts the regular day of collection. The Town will post info related to schedule changes on our website and will also issue a news flash for those signed up to receive notifications.    

15. Christmas Tree collections?

American will pick up natural Christmas trees with household trash on normal pick-up days (Wednesdays) during the first two weeks of January. Trees should be placed alongside the trash cart and should NOT be placed in plastic bags. Please also remove all tinsel, lights, and decorations before setting your tree out for collection.
