Gun Lock Give Away

Commitment to Community and School Safety

Gun Lock Give Away (3)At the Middleburg Police Department, we are proud to support an important initiative started by the Loudoun County Public School Board to enhance the safety of students and families. Recognizing the serious risks of unsecured firearms, the School Board passed a Secure Storage Notification Resolution aimed at raising awareness about the importance of responsible gun storage.

Across the United States, 4.6 million children live in homes with at least one loaded, unlocked firearm. Each year, 350 children unintentionally shoot themselves or others, and 1,200 children and teens lose their lives to gun suicide, often with firearms belonging to family members. These tragedies can be prevented, and the district’s initiative is a vital step toward that goal.

Free Gun Locks for Families

In response to this initiative, the Middleburg Police Department has joined forces with Loudoun County Public Schools to offer free gun locks to families in our community. We strongly encourage families to secure their firearms and help prevent accidental injuries and fatalities. These locks are available at Middleburg Police Department.

Additionally, we have partnered with Project ChildSafe, a national program dedicated to educating parents and children about responsible gun ownership. The Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office is also providing free gun locks. The LCSD station locations the locks will be available are:

  • Ashburn Station – 20272 Savin Hill Drive, Ashburn
  • Dulles South Public Safety Center – 25216 Loudoun County Parkway, Chantilly
  • Eastern Loudoun Station – 46620 East Frederick Drive, Sterling
  • Western Loudoun Station – 7 W. Loudoun Street, Round Hill

How You Can Help

As part of the School District's resolution, parents will receive important information on firearm storage in their children’s annual school registration materials. We urge all families to review this information carefully and take the necessary steps to safely store firearms.
