The Middleburg Charitable Foundation was recently formed to serve as a charitable entity that supports other charitable groups in and around Middleburg. This new 501c3 entity is entirely separate from the Town of Middleburg government and the Town Council has no control over the entity. Five members of the public and two Councilmembers serve on the Board of Directors of the Charitable Foundation.

History
Previously, the Town of Middleburg established a Health Center Advisory Board that would direct charitable giving to local charitable organizations with revenues from the Health Center building. In recent years, the Health Center Advisory Board has given between $40,000 and $50,000 per year to charities doing work in and around Middleburg.
Upon sale of the Health Center building, the Town Council set a goal to fully divest itself of the funds from the Health Center Fund and allow them to be managed by a local not-for-profit organization. That led to establishment of the Middleburg Charitable Foundation.
The Town Council authorized a charitable contribution to the Middleburg Charitable Foundation in the amount of the balance of the Town's Health Center Fund. This amount was approximately $853,300. In addition, the Council later authorized a contribution of $350,000 to the Middleburg Charitable Foundation, with the anticipation that this amount would put them in a position where they would not require further funding from the Town.
